How it works.
Mechanics
Water flows to the bottom of the cartridge through central tubing. Pressure then forces the water upwards through a diffusion mesh, which helps evenly distribute the water across the filter media. The water then passes through the filter media before exiting through the containment mesh and moving on to the next phase. Click on the spots dotting the image to identify the different parts of the filter and what they do.
Chemical Reduction
As opposed to the mechanical reduction of the REMOVE phase, the RESET phase uses chemical reduction to remove contaminants on a molecular level. Through the process of adsorption, granular activated carbon (GAC) uses its oleophilic (oil attracting) properties to pull non-polar contaminants out of the water, including most organic compounds. The combined surface area of just one GAC cartridge exceeds 250,000 square feet; that’s over 18 olympic-size swimming pools of chemical reduction taking place in a single cartridge.
This process effectively reduces common disinfection byproducts, trihalomethanes (THMs), organic contaminants like chlorinated solvents, pesticides, and other industrial pollutants.
Catalytic Reduction
Chlorine is catalytically reduced from an oxidizer (NaOCl) to a harmless salt (NaCl) by stripping away the reactive oxygen.
